Naked Truth: Tech Affairs Exposed

Technology trends among students

By Cheryl Fey, Joanne Liou and Muna Marawi

Two-hundred and six students from nine different schools at the University of Texas at Austin completed a survey to determine technology usage on campus. Students were asked questions ranging from their knowledge of available resources to which social media sites they use. The following results represent trends and tendencies among the student body.
Did you know laptops are available to borrow?
Did you know the Campus Computer Store sells software to students at discounted prices?
Are you aware of the services that the Information Technology Services provides?
Do you use the University supplied e-mail address (@mail.utexas.edu)?
Do you text on your cell phone during class?
During class, do you visit social Web sites such as Facebook?
